I believe in building sustainable communities that are designed and managed to meet the needs of all without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Key characteristics of a sustainable community include:
- Social Equality: Ensuring that all residents have access to resources and opportunities necessary for living a good life. This includes affordable and accessible housing, equitable access to services, and community engagement in decision-making processes.
- Environmental Stewardship: Supporting and prioritising initiatives that promote biodiversity, reduce waste, conserve energy and minimise pollution.
- Strengthening the Local Economy: Supporting local businesses by encouraging people to shop local, work local, and attracting new business to the area.
- Resilient Communities: Making sure that the community has a plan and resources in place for adverse social, economic, and environmental changes.
- Healthy Living: Communities should have accessible recreational opportunities, clean air and water, and residents should feel safe.
- Community Engagement: Residents should have the opportunity to participate in local governance and development initiatives in a meaningful and non-tokenistic way. Local government consultations should be well publicised and accessible to all.
