Bray Travellers: Elephant in the Room

Bray Travellers: Elephant in the Room

I attended the launch of Elephant in the Room, a powerful and thought-provoking project created by the Girls Youth Group at Bray Travellers, with the support of Signal Arts Centre, Bray.

At the centre of the project is a strikingly painted elephant, decorated with bold motifs that celebrate Traveller culture, identity, and pride.

Elephant in the Room is more than a visual piece. It forms part of a wider social movement that uses public art to encourage open and honest conversations about mental health, in schools, workplaces, and everyday life. By bringing these discussions into shared spaces, the project helps challenge stigma and create opportunities for early support.

Founded in 2021, the initiative has grown from a grassroots idea into a national, and now international, movement. Its message is simple but important: no one should feel alone in their struggles.

It was great to see founder Brent Pope at the launch, showing his continued support for a project that is clearly making an impact.

The Bray Travellers Elephant in the Room will be on display at Bray Civic Offices for the next three months. If you’re nearby, it’s well worth taking the time to see it in person.
