It Takes a Village – Greystones and Delgany

It Takes a Village – Greystones and Delgany

I was at the It Takes a Village event in Greystones, where flags were presented to all the schools involved in the project.

It Takes a Village is a well-being initiative led by St. Patrick's National School in Greystones, set up in response to concerns raised by teachers across the eight primary schools in the Greystones and Delgany area about rising anxiety levels in young children. It brings schools, parents, and local services together to support children's mental health and digital safety.

The project's goals include securing community play therapists to work with children, families, and teachers, running parent workshops with well-being and digital safety experts, and piloting a digital passport scheme for 6th class students on internet safety.

Seeing all eight schools represented together, and recognised with their flags, was a good reminder of what this initiative is about: a community-wide response, not just something happening in one school in isolation. Well-being and digital safety are issues every school and every family in the area are dealing with, and it's encouraging to see this level of cooperation behind it.
