Killarney Heights: The court is coming together

Killarney Heights: The court is coming together

After months of anticipation, the project is moving at pace. The floor has been laid on the green, and the basketball hoops have arrived, currently sitting in Wicklow County Council's depot, ready and waiting to be installed. That installation will be happening as soon as possible.

Here's a quick look at where things stand right now and what's still to come:

Court Floor Laid The surface has been installed on Killarney Heights green. The foundation of the court is down and looking great. Complete

🏀Basketball Hoops — In Depot, Ready to Install The hoops have arrived at Wicklow County Council's depot. Installation will take place as soon as possible. Coming Very Soon

🎨Line Markings — Scheduled for May  The court markings will be painted in May. Given the high chance of rain right now, waiting ensures the lines are applied properly and last. May 2025

🔧Fencing — In Progress  The town engineer is currently engaging with contractors about fencing the court. More details to follow as plans are confirmed. In Planning

It's worth noting that the decision to hold off on line markings until May is a practical one.  Applying court markings in wet conditions can affect how well they bond and how long they last. A short wait now means a much better result for everyone.

Once the hoops are up, residents will be able to start making use of the court even while the remaining finishing touches are put in place over the coming weeks.

I will share an update as soon as the hoops are installed and the court is open for use. In the meantime, thanks to everyone in the community who pushed for this facility, and to Wicklow County Council for progressing it with our discretionary funding. 🏀
