Leas Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council

Leas Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council

I’m pleased to share that I’ve been elected Leas-Chathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council.  The first member of the Social Democrats to hold this position in Wicklow.

It’s an honour to take on this role, and I’m committed to carrying out the responsibilities with fairness, accountability, and respect for all members and constituents.

This year’s Annual Meeting marked a notable moment in the council’s history. For the first time, both leadership positions, Cathaoirleach and Leas-Chathaoirleach, are held by women. I’ll be serving alongside Councillor Melanie Corrigan (Fine Gael), who was elected Cathaoirleach. It’s a positive step for representation, especially in a chamber where women still make up less than a third of councillors.

I want to thank my colleague Cllr Danny Alvey for nominating me and outgoing Cathaoirleach Paul O’Brien for seconding the nomination. Their support is genuinely appreciated.

As Leas-Chathaoirleach, I’ll continue focusing on the issues that matter most to the people who elected me: housing, climate action, public services, and community wellbeing.

I look forward to working across party lines to keep local government grounded in practical solutions and real outcomes for Wicklow’s residents.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far. There’s a lot of work ahead and I’m ready to get on with it.
