I had the chance to meet Catherine Connolly in Wicklow Town today, and it confirmed why I’m supporting her in the upcoming presidential election. I’m also looking forward to getting involved in her campaign.
Catherine brings a kind of leadership that we don’t see enough of. One that prioritises listening over lecturing, and building understanding rather than fuelling division. She doesn’t rely on fear or outrage to make her point. Instead, she focuses on what unites us.
Her work on behalf of people affected by the mother and baby homes has shown that she’s not afraid to speak up, even when it’s uncomfortable. But what stands out is how she does it: with respect, clarity, and a willingness to find common ground. She doesn’t alienate, she engages.
That’s the kind of approach I want to see in Áras an Uachtaráin. Someone who brings people together, rather than pushing them further apart.
I’m proud to support Catherine and to campaign for her. If you’re looking for a candidate who leads with integrity and listens with intent, she’s worth paying attention to.
