On Saturday, 6th September, I went to the National Indoor Arena for the first joint SportAbility Day run by the Local Sports Partnerships in Dublin and Wicklow.
The event was about opening sport up to everyone, with “come and try” sessions, demos, and information stands from clubs and organisations that offer inclusive activities. I gave taekwondo, hockey, and rugby a go, all fun, all very accessible.
Plenty of National Governing Bodies were there too, including Vision Sport Ireland, Special Olympics, Tennis Ireland, Swim Ireland, Golf Ireland, Basketball Ireland, and Paralympics Ireland.
There was also a sensory quiet hour, a dedicated sensory area, and the venue itself was easy to get around, which made a big difference.
It was a great day out and a reminder of how much sport can open up when inclusion is made the priority.
Thank you for subscribing!
Have a great day!
