I spent the day at the Tinahely Show yesterday and really enjoyed it. It’s a great mix of farming, crafts, and community, and there’s something for everyone, whether you're into livestock, local art, or just good food and people-watching.
One of my favourite parts of the show was the Pets Corner. It was full of animals you could get up close to which is great for kids and adults alike.
I also really enjoyed walking through the competitions. Local people put a huge amount of effort into the displays, from baking and crafts to art and photography. The quilting section stood out for me. The amount of time and skill that goes into those quilts is impressive, and it’s nice to see that kind of work getting proper attention.
Outside, there were plenty of trade stands, including everything from farming equipment to GAA merchandise. It’s a good chance to browse, chat with the stallholders, and see what’s going on locally in both farming and sport.
One of the more fun events we caught was the "Dog You’d Most Like to Take Home" competition. We had a go at guessing the winners, and we were right about one of them: a very friendly Labrador with a great personality who clearly charmed the judges.
We also stopped by the Wicklow County Council tent, which had a good overview of the services they offer. It was well laid out and informative, worth a look if you’re curious about what the council actually does day-to-day.
A great family day out!
